Corrected in checking:

  • October 28, 2026: an earlier version said the county's newsroom notice, last updated Oct. 19, still listed Oct. 20 and Oct. 24 with no postponement. The notice was updated Oct. 27 and now moves the Oct. 24 treatment to Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m., the same date as the Arbovirus Monitoring page.

What changed

BeforeNo aerial spraying scheduled over Apopka and Pine Hills.
NowAerial spraying against the dengue mosquito: flights scheduled at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20, with no report on whether they took place; both county pages move the Oct. 24 round to Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, at 7 p.m., due to weather.

Orange County Mosquito Control's Arbovirus Monitoring page says "The aerial spraying treatment scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, will happen on Friday, October 30, 2026, due to weather." The county's newsroom notice for the spraying over parts of Apopka and Pine Hills, updated Oct. 27, 2026, gives the same date and the time: "Treatment scheduled for Saturday, October 24, has been rescheduled for Friday, October 30, at 7 p.m."

What changed

  • The county is spraying from the air against the dengue mosquito. Its press release, which its page data dates Oct. 12, 2026, announced aerial spraying "to reduce the mosquito population responsible for transmitting Dengue Fever."
  • The reason is local cases. The county's notice says that as of Oct. 12 the Florida Department of Health had confirmed "four locally transmitted cases of dengue fever in the Apopka area and one in Pine Hills."
  • The state's own count agrees. The Department of Health's weekly report counts 5 locally acquired dengue cases in Orange County in 2026, among 368 in Florida. The same report lists Orange County under a mosquito-borne illness alert.

When

  • Scheduled flights: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 (now past); the Saturday, Oct. 24 round has moved to Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, at 7 p.m.
  • Both county pages now agree. The newsroom notice says "(Spraying schedule was last updated on 10/27/2026.)" and carries the Oct. 30 date; the Arbovirus Monitoring page gives the same date and weather as the reason. Neither page says whether the Oct. 20 flights took place.
  • Earlier schedule: the notice's Oct. 16 update put spraying at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, with treatments possibly postponed to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 because of thunderstorms. No source read says whether those treatments took place.
  • How long: the county's mosquito control manager said in the press release, "We are planning to aerial spray over the next two to three weeks."
  • Notice: the county says it "will notify residents at least 48 hours before aerial spraying begins," through its social media, the Mosquito Control website and OC Alert.

Where

  • Apopka: "portions of central and south Apopka," including neighborhoods near U.S. Highway 441, Main Street and Park Avenue, South Apopka and Clarcona, Paradise Heights, and areas north of Lake Apopka. The notice says "Apopka High School will not be in the treatment area."
  • Pine Hills: residential neighborhoods near West Colonial Drive and North Pine Hills Road, areas near West Washington Street, and the Bel-Aire Woods and Orlo Vista communities.

What it means if you live here

  • You may see low-flying planes. The notice says residents "may see aircraft flying at low altitudes and making turns while carrying out the treatments."
  • Nothing extra for pets or gardens. "County officials say residents do not need to take additional precautions to protect pets, livestock, or gardens."
  • The next flight is Friday, Oct. 30. The newsroom notice gives 7 p.m.; the Arbovirus Monitoring page gives the date and no time. The county's notice still lists "Update for Monday, October 19: Spraying is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, and Saturday, October 24." as its earlier schedule.
